One example of a company who upcycles would be Terracycle. Terracycle is a company who not only endorses and promoted recycling, but will pay you for bringing in your wrappers to their company. This company takes these wrappers and other recyclable goods and turns them into items that people can use. Some examples of these items are: a duffel bag, garden pavers, fence, bench, picnic table, toilet seat, trash cans of different sizes, and more. This company started in 2001 with one of the owners staying at a friend's house and seeing that he would feed the left over food to red worms in a compost. The company started out small, selling grass fertilizer, and grew to selling products in Home Depot. As the staffing grew, the demand to get this business into the United States did too. Wal-mart was the first United States company to "open its doors" to the company. In 2008, the company partnered with Customer Packaged Goods (CPG) which not only started the paying customers to bring in their wrappers, but also got kraft foods and Capri Sun joined in on this impact. In 2009, the company started to go Global with the help of Target, and Petco starting to sell their all natural dog foods. Once 2012 hit, they were a huge company, and started to reuse the most discarded materials. This being cigarette butts, which were made into shipping pellets. The United States has more purple dots over all, and England has more condensed amount of dots. The United States has more dots due to the fact that its citizens create more waste per day than any other country, that being 7 lb. per day. This is so much garbage that it could provide electricity to 7,000 households. Now, out of those 7 lb. about 36.5% can be upcycled, due to the fact that an average person in the United States throws away 70 lb. of textiles a year.
